Books & More

Clean books, clean the store, hand out flyers, cover the store in owners absence. Their compensation is books. Using minimum wage per hours volunteered equals the $ value of books they can choose.  Volunteer requirements for my store are- casual dress clean and neat, person-oriented, a reader, and preferably NO electronics/cell phones while working.

Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse (Henry County)

We always need help preparing food for our support groups, help with fundraisers and marketing and for those wanting more hands on after training and background checks we can use help with family support, super-friend/mentor situations and victim advocacy.

Hazlewood Every Child Outdoor Center

Hazlewood Every Child Outdoors Center offers opportunities to work with families and youth in an outdoor setting as instructors in nature or trail guides, camp monitors and instructional assistants. Also, there is a periodic need for volunteers in basic maintenance of the grounds, garden and campsite maintenance and improvement, and related tasks. Outdoors is a great place to be.

REAL Hope Youth Center

Volunteers arrive at the Center at 3:00 p.m. and stay until 5:30.  Responsibilities include working one-on-one with students in a homework room (classroom) and assisting the club leaders with their group activities.  New volunteers receive an orientation on Center rules and procedures.  If you enjoy helping young children succeed this will be a great assignment for you.

Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center

Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center is looking for volunteers to work greeting the public. Visitor Center hours are Monday – Saturday 8:00 – 4:00 pm. We ask that volunteers work a 4 hour shift from 8 – 12, or 12 – 4. We offer excited visitors, fantastic lake views, a peaceful setting, and lots of wildlife. If interested, please call Joan Stevens at 731-431-6765.

The new refuge visitor center is located about a 20 drive from Paris. Take Oak Grove Road South off highway 79 North of Paris and follow the directional signs. The last mile of road will be gravel, but will be paved in 2015.

Starting in 2015 the Henry County Volunteer Center will sponsor a Volunteer Site of the Month in attempts to aid the site with community awareness and supplies if needed.

Who We Are:
We are a free service offered by the Henry County School System. Our Purpose is to work in partnership with parents, community agencies, and businesses to help each child succeed in school. We understand that today’s family has many needs, working together we can help our children succeed.

Every November the Henry County Volunteer Center invites all active volunteers to a Recognition Luncheon. Presidential Volunteer Awards, Volunteer of the Year, and Volunteer Site of the Year are all recognized at the luncheon. Please make sure your address is current with the Volunteer Center and to turn in your hours each month to receive an invitation.
